Having a tooth removed.
Here is what to expect, start to finish.
When a tooth can't be saved.
Severe decay, a deep crack, or advanced gum disease can leave a tooth beyond repair.
You'll be comfortable.
We numb the area completely. You will feel pressure, but you should not feel pain.
Gently removed.
The tooth is carefully loosened and lifted out of its socket.
Time to heal.
A blood clot forms in the socket to protect it while it heals. Biting gently on gauze helps it form.
Protect the clot.
For the first few days, be gentle with the area while it heals.
Don't leave a gap.
An empty space can let nearby teeth shift, change your bite, and lead to bone loss over time.
Option 1
A dental implant.
A titanium post replaces the root, and a crown replaces the tooth. It's the closest thing to a natural tooth.
Option 2
A bridge.
A false tooth is held in place by crowns on the teeth on either side.

A partial denture.
A removable replacement that clips onto your natural teeth.
